2023 Scotty King of Kings - Tournament Rules
1. Upon registration all team captains/team mates agree to abide by all tournament rules. Competitors may be disqualified for violation of any of the tournament rules, with no refund of entry fee provided.
2. Each competitor upon registration agrees to sign a waiver holding the tournament, tournament officials, sponsors, their agents and/or employees harmless from liability of any nature, and for injuries or damages suffered by the entrants during the period the tournament is held. This waiver must be signed and returned to a tournament official prior to 5:30 am on tournament day, if not the team will be disqualified
3. A mandatory captains meeting will be held at 4:00 p.m. on the Friday prior to tournament day. The team captain, registered team member, or delegate must be present at the meeting, AND a signed waiver form with all team members signatures must be returned.
4. Postponing of the tournament will take place if a small-craft wind warning or other dangerous water conditions are forecasted for the day of the event. In the event of a postponement, the event will take place the following day (Sunday) and a decision to reschedule the tournament day to the Sunday will be made by tournament officials by 8:00 am at the latest on the Saturday of Tournament day. If the tournament is postponed to Sunday there will be NO REFUND given. If weather continues to force postponing the start time on the Sunday, a cancellation announcement will be made no later than 11:00 am on the Sunday, and at that time the entry fee will be returned to participants, minus tournament expenses.
5. All Teams must supply a team member and/or observer who will act as a scrutineer on another competitor’s boat. If on tournament day a team fails to provide an observer, or alternate team member, to the designated team by the set time, the team will be disqualified from the competition. All observers must by 19yrs of age or older.
6. Tournament Fishing is only permitted in Canadian Waters from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, with all teams reporting back to the weigh-in area no later than 3:30 pm on tournament day. All tournament boats/teams are not allowed to leave the dock any earlier than 5:45 am on the day of the tournament and must queue within 200m of the entrance of the harbor to await the official “shot-gun” start of the tournament. Any boats leaving the queue area prior to the official shot-gun start will be penalized a total of 30 points at the time of weigh-in, and will be determined at the discretion of tourney officials.
7. All team coolers, team captain (or delegate), and assigned observer must be in the designated weigh-in area no later than 3:30 pm on tournament day. There will be a penalty of 4 points/ minute late assigned to any teams arriving in the designated area after 3:30 p.m. The designated weigh-in area will be identified at the captains meeting as will the official tournament clock/time.
8. The tournament is a six (6) rod limit tournament, meaning that no more than 6 fishing rods can be active (or in the water) at any one time. There is no maximum number of anglers/participants permitted on the boat.
9. Chinook and Coho Salmon are the only fish species to be entered into the tournament and must be a minimum of 20” at the time of official weigh-in to be eligible for entry. Any fish not meeting the 20” slot size (measured from tip of the snout to folded tip of tail), and/or allowable species will be ineligible AND the team will be penalized 30 points at the time of weigh-in. The team will also forfeit the ability to get another fish from their total daily catch
10. Tournament scoring will be based on the following: 10 points per eligible fish, plus 1 point per pound of box weight, with a maximum of six (6) eligible fish being counted towards the box weight. If more than six (6) fish are brought to the official weigh-in area and included as part of the total box, the team will be penalized the heaviest fish in the box, and only allowed to weigh-in a five (5) fish box. The teams with the highest total points are eligible for tournament prizes.
11. Any fish entered must be caught by hook and line, retrieved by rod and reel, on angling tackle. Any fish having cuts, gaff marks, gill net or puncture marks, or in any way altered or containing foreign objects, anywhere on or in the body will at the discretion of the tournament committee be disallowed from the tournament box.
12. All boxed fish must not be placed in an active live well, or in standing water, at any time during the hours of competition. Frozen plastic jugs, block and/or bagged ice (double bagged) are permitted in coolers. Only incidental standing water is permitted in coolers.
13. Tournament standings will be determined by total points. A tie for any position will see the team with the single heaviest fish be deemed the outright winner (HEAVIEST FISH IN BOX).
14. At the discretion of tournament officials, any team entering fish that have been altered in any manner as to increase the weight and/or size of the fish will not permitted, and the entire team box will be disqualified from the tournament.
15. Team box re-weighs will only be allowed at the request of the team captain and/or tournament official. Unless otherwise determined by the tournament committee, a box re-weigh is only permitted at the time of the initial weigh-in and prior to the team captain signing off on the box weight. If a re-weigh is requested, the weight of the second weighed box will be deemed as the official box weight and total tournament score. Once box weights are signed by the team captain they will be deemed as final and not subject to change, unless directed by the tournament committee.
16. All decisions/rulings made by tournament officials will be deemed final by 5:00 p.m., or once announced as final by the Tournament Chairperson. Prize structures and payouts will be subject to full field (60 boats for the Spring Event and 40 boats for the Summer Event).
17. There will be no boat-to-boat communication whatsoever during the official tournament times of 6am – 2:30 pm, and this includes VHF Radio, CB, cell phones, mobile devices, etc. All personnel PDA's must be collected by the observer and placed in a closed bag between the official tournament times. Boats are permitted to monitor VHF Channel 16. VHF radio/cell phones can only be used for emergency purposes only. Fail to do so will result in disqualification.
18. Tournament boats are only allowed to monitor VHF/Marine Channel 16, unless in the case of an emergency whereby communication to Coast Guard, Regional Police and/or other boaters is permitted by VHF Radio or via cell phone. If you need assistance from the Coast Guard you can contact them on Marine Channel 16, or via cell phone.
19. Tournament Officials, including observers may inspect boats and/or coolers at any time on the day of the competition.
20. By agreeing to participate in the tournament and adhering to all tournament rules, any winning teams may be subject to a lie detector test (poly graph) prior to being awarded a tournament prize – at the discretion of Tournament Committee.
21. Any protest must be submitted to a tournament official no later than 15 minutes after the final team/boat has weighed in. The protest must be filled out on an official “King of Kings Tournament Protest Form”, accompanied by a $150.00 (CAN. Funds) protest fee, and signed by the team captain. Any protest not meeting the above protest rules will not be accepted. The protest fee will be refunded if the protest is validated.
22. Observers are mandatory and must be identified by the team captain. All observers must be prepared to leave the dock on their assigned boat by 5:30 a.m. on tournament day, and if a team’s observer is not present by 5:40 a.m. then the captain of the assigned observers team must forfeit a team member to act as an observer replacement, if not the team will be disqualified from the tournament.
23. If any team requires an observer, notification must be provided to tournament officials by no later than 2 weeks prior to the tournament date, at which time officials will assign an observer to your team, but a cost of $150 will apply.
24. All rules are subject to change up to and including the closing of the captains meeting. The Decision of the Tournament Committee and Officials will be deemed final in all cases, and non-disputable.
25. Where a discrepancy of tournament rules exist the overall “intent” of the rule supersedes all other written rules as written, and with the discretion of tournament officials will act to form the basis of all official tournament rulings.
